During the late 80s, something extraordinary was emerging from out of the streets of Northside Minneapolis… Fresh out of high school in 1988, Dot10 known as The Dot, born Jah Akeem, formed his first rap group XGOVERNMENT. Growing up around true park pioneers & innovators in his home town scene, such as, Derek Delight, Disco T, Travitron, IRM, & Smoke D, Dot10 picked up on the elements of true hip-hop, while watching & admiring these MCs and DJ’s. With Dot10 as front man of XGOVERNMENT, along with his former DJ “Magma”, they began creating that raw-hitting sound, influenced by RUN DMC, Gang Starr, Boogie Down Productions, as well as EPMD & Public Enemy. In 1990, Dot10 released his first record called “Philosophy”, which lead to a record-deal with a U.K. label called Genalie Records. Having had one of the first major beefs in Minnesota with pioneering DJ Michael Mac & emcee Bizarre, played out on air KMOJ, criteria 89-91. In 1992, Dot10, along with then, label mate Classy A, was the first to record a dis-record about the situation. This was reminiscent of the New York battles that went on between KRS One & MC Shan. From 1993-2000, Dot10 released various independent 12” records and maxi-singles under the name XGOVERNMENT, being one of the first emcee/entrepreneurs with a production company, Sasqwatch Recordings, to release his own tapes before technology switched to CDs.
In 2000, The Dot began pursuing a solo career, during which he improved his rhyme skills & music production abilities. These enhancements lead to the 2003 underground mixtape “Lock & Load”, that featured one of the illest free-stylers in the city, Sunburn. Between the “Lock & Load” release & Dot10 finding himself, he has begun recording his first solo debut album titled “Mega Watt 1.5”, releasing in 2006, on his new imprint Def-fidelity Media. His current single “Park Pioneers”, which is probably one of the first rap songs to pay homage to the local hip-hop old school, has garnered him much attention in the community. KMOJ’s Sam Soulprano (program director) has also recognized Dot10’s talent and has given his music extensive radio play. Peter Scholtes from the MPLS City Pages quotes “Dot10 has a voice of rare richness & snap, mixed over such loving sonic details.” Now, with this new perspective & sound, Dot10 is perfecting his live stage shows with his very skilled drummer Ryan “MD” Goeres, who originally began playing percussion/drums at the age of 4. “MD” went on to West Virginia University and studied African drumming and taught drumline and private lessons in S.W. Pennsylvania. In 2000, he moved to Minnesota & hooked up with Dot10, a true park pioneer---one of the most innovative & charismatic rap artists bubbling underground in the rap industry. Together, they create energetic live performances, that are futuristically unique. With 1 drummer & 1 emcee, these two make the perfect blend of live showmanship.
Currently, The Dot & Ryan Goeres are working on thier black Chorm debut release for 2007 “Monsterous XP”, firing off more lyrical ammunition, showing wack emcees how to squeeze raps over BIG beats while never missing the target. Hip-Hop’s new super rap rock stars bench-presses rhymes & beats like body builders. These Rap Heavyweight collide refreshing lyrics and original production for that new age, cutting edge sound. Black Chrom is Real Rap Action, The ultimate hip-hop band.
